The Certificate course in English for O/L students is designed to address the specific language needs of learners in their journey towards mastering the English language. English language proficiency is a fundamental skill in today’s globalized world, and achieving competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing is crucial for academic and professional success.
The course recognizes the importance of equipping students with the necessary language skills and strategies to excel in the English language paper of the Ordinary level examination. The examination assesses students’ abilities to comprehend and communicate effectively in English, making it vital for students to develop a strong foundation of all language skills.
The course takes in to account the requirements and expectations of the examination, providing targeted instruction and practice in each skill area. It aims to enhance students’ linguistics competence, foster critical thinking abilities and develop their overall language proficiency.
Throughout the 24 – week duration, students will engage in variety of activities, exercises and assessments that are specifically designed to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The course will emphasize the integration of these skills, as well as the application of grammar and vocabulary knowledge in meaningful contexts.
With experienced lecturers/ instructors guiding their learning journey, students will access to comprehensive lesson plans, authentic materials, and valuable feedback to aid their progress. The course will also incorporate examination preparation strategies, including mock examinations to familiarize students with the examination format and equip them with necessary techniques and confidence.
By the end of the course, students will have honed their language skills, gained a solid understanding of English grammar and vocabulary and developed the ability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English. They will be well, prepared to succeed in the English language paper of the Ordinary Level examination and beyond, as they continue to navigate academic pursuits and real life situations that require strong English proficiency.

To assess the student’s understanding and mastery of the course materials, final evaluation will be conducted using dual assessment approach; final paper and oral and listening test.
